EXHIBITION: CELINE PARK GALLERY

Céline Park Gallery and Level Zero presented a selection of works from 'Future Food: The Concern of the Tongue' at Level Zero in an exhibition-meal format from November 9 to December 31. The exhibition was designed to explore the 'future food environment' from the perspective of designers through various media, posing questions for us to contemplate. Inspired by each project, Level Zero designed several new menu items paired with the design projects, offering visitors an opportunity to taste them.


셀린박 갤러리와 레벨제로는 11월 9일부터 12월 31일까지 ‘Future Food: 혀가 느끼는 고민’의 일부 작품을 레벨제로에서 전시식(展示食)으로 선보였다. 디자이너들의 시선으로 바라본 ‘미래 식 환경’의 모습을 다양한 미디어를 통해 보여주며 우리 스스로 생각해 볼 화두를 던지는 목적으로 기획했다. 각 프로젝트에서 영감받아 레벨제로가 직접 디자인한 여러 신메뉴를 작품들과 페어링 하여 맛볼 기회가 주어졌다.

"FUTURE FOOD: The Concern of the Tongue" presents the future food environment through the perspectives of designers, using various media to pose questions for us to consider. It addresses social issues such as climate change, food loss and waste reduction, and factory farming that could arise if current food consumption patterns persist. Each project collaborates with experts from multiple fields to recreate plausible future scenarios based on synthetic biology, social science, and political contexts, delivering social messages to the audience through realistic portrayals.


'FUTURE FOOD : 혀가 느끼는 고민'은 디자이너들의 시선을 통해 바라본 '미래 식환경'의 모습을 다양한 미디어로 보여주며 우리 스스로 생각해 볼 화두를 던져 준다. 현재의 식소비 패턴이 지속되었을 때 야기될 수 있는 기후변화, 식량 손실과, 낭비 개선, 공장식 축산 등의 사회적 이슈들을 쟁점으로 다뤘다. 각각의 프로젝트는 여러 분야의 전문가들과 협업해 합성생물학(synthetic biology) 혹은 사회 과학, 정치적 상황들을 기반으로 미래에 일어날 수 있을 법한 상황들을 실제와 같이 재연해, 관객들에게 사회적 메시지를 전달한다.

Design the Path from Today

Speculative Design Seoul (SDS) is a group formed around the design philosophy of Celine Park to introduce the concept of speculative design in Korea. Speculative design first gained attention in the early 2000s at the Royal College of Art in London through Dunne & Raby and has since garnered worldwide attention. Although this concept is still unfamiliar in Korea, its significance can be felt through consistent mentions by institutions like MoMA, the London Design Museum, The New York Times, and CNN. Speculative design proposes futuristic scenarios to critically examine current social issues and encourages discussion from a new perspective.

Design concepts will continue to expand in the future. In such a society, through speculative design, we can experience new technologies, concepts, humanities, and philosophies. This exhibition is the first to showcase of the two main speculative projects by SDS, led by speculative designer, Céline Park and researcher Woo Ri Chae.
