This exhibition marks the culmination of a semester-long Speculative Design course taught by speculative designer Céline Park as an adjunct professor at the Korea National University of Arts (K-ARTS) in 2025. It features works by students from the course—Doga Olmez, Michelle Andrea Christie, and Youra Hong—alongside projects by leading figures in speculative design such as Dunne & Raby, Paul Gong, Céline Park, and Nonhuman Nonsense. By bringing together student works and established projects, the exhibition aims to reintroduce and reinvigorate the concept of speculative design in Korea. It invites viewers to engage with the students’ critical thought processes and conceptual developments, encouraging both students and designers to cultivate imagination and critical reflection. Speculative design explores future scenarios by categorizing them into four types: Probable, Plausible, Possible, and Preferable. Through the question “What if…?” it investigates a range of alternative futures. This approach is grounded in interdisciplinary collaboration and real-world research, using design as a means to visualize and critique social, technological, and environmental issues. Ultimately, speculative design is not about predicting the future, but about questioning how we perceive and construct the present. It is an educational design practice that provokes fundamental reflection.

이번 전시는 스페큘러티브 디자이너 셀린박이 2025년 한학기 동안 한국 예술 종합 학교(K-arts)에서 겸임교수로 진행한 스페큘러티브 디자인 (Speculative Design) 수업의 한학기를 마무리하며 기획되었다. 본 전시는 해당 수업을 수강한 학생들 중 Doga Olmez, Michelle Andrea Christie, 홍유라의 작업과 함께, 스페큘러티브 디자인을 대표하는 던앤라비(Dunne & Raby), 폴공(Paul Gong), 셀린 박, 넌휴먼 넌센스 (Nonhuman Nonsense) 등의 작품을 함께 전시하여 스페큘러티브 디자인 개념을 국내에 재차 소개하여 환기하고, 학생들의 작업 과정과 문제 인식 과정을 공유함으로써 학생 및 디자이너들에게 비판적 사고와 상상력을 자극하고자 기획되었다. 스페큘러티브 디자인은 미래를 네 가지 범주 즉 '당연한 (Probable)', '그럴듯한 (Plausible)', '가능한(Possible)', '선호하는 (Preferable)' 으로 구분하고, 미래엔 '만약에...' 라는 질문을 통해 다양한 가능성의 시나리오를 탐색한다. 이 과정은 다양한 분야의 전문가들과의 협업과 실제 연구를 기반으로 하며, 디자인을 통해 사회, 기술, 환경 등의 이슈에 대한 비판적 관점을 시각화하는데 중점을 둔다. 결국 이 접근은 미래를 예언하는 것이 아니라, 현재 우리가 무엇을 어떻게 바라보고 있는지에 대한 근본적인 질문을 던지는 교육적 디자인 실천으로 이해할 수 있다.
